Frontón is the Spanish name for the court, and the family of games, in which players hit a ball against a front wall. It belongs to Basque pelota, a group of sports from the Basque Country and Navarre that spread across Spain, France and Latin America. Some are played with a racket or a basket (jai alai is the famous one); the purest is pelota a mano, played with the bare hand.
The front wall is called the frontis. Along its base runs a metal strip, the chapa: hit it and the point goes to your opponent. The ball must reach the wall without bouncing first, and after it comes back you may let it bounce only once before you return it. Singles matches in hand pelota are usually played to 22 points.
It is one against one and turn by turn. Move, time your hit, and watch the marker on the wall: it shows where your shot will land before you take it. The height at which you take the ball decides everything. Take it low and the shot comes out flat and deep, but it skims the chapa. Take it high and it is safe but short, and you leave it served for your rival.
Your record is your longest rally.
